Devil's Claw

Despite the sinister name, Devil’s Claw is quite a positive thing!  Found in the southern part of the African continent in South Africa and Namibia, Devil’s Claw was used in traditional remedies for joint pains and rheumatoid diseases.

It’s active agent, harpagosides, have been found to work on the same receptors including TNFɑ that are the targets of modern biologic drugs for rheumatologic conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis.

Modern research studies have shown Devil’s Claw provides improvement in pain and function in those suffering from back pain, hip arthritis, and knee arthritis.  Not so devilish after all!
